JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT:

The Teacher is responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and psychological growth. This person is responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with International Academic School’s policies and mission.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.

2. Develop and implement lesson plans for in-person, distance, and virtual learning that fulfill requirements of the school curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required, including lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.

3. Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.

4. Marks work, gives appropriate feedback and maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.

5. Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.

6. Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis; works cooperatively with parents to strengthen the educational program for their students.

7. Attends all training sessions run by the school.

8. Keeps accurate and up-to-date records of students’ marks and academic progress in a planner provided by the school and makes it available for checking at all times.

9. Respects the confidentiality of records and information regarding students, parents and teachers in accordance with accepted professional ethics and school policy.

10. Attends and prepares for scheduled Parent Consultation Evenings.

11. Ensures the best use of resources and ensures the minimum wastage.

12. Offers and participates in extracurricular activities in accordance with contractual obligations. Provides required extra-curricular activity per week.

13. Provides progress, interim and term reports as required.

14. Plans and prescribes purposeful assignments for students who are considered “gifted and talented”.

15. Recognizes learning problems and makes referrals as appropriate.

16. Demonstrates a strong grasp of subject matter.

17. Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment; attends all scheduled staff meetings with colleagues.

18. Covers for absent colleagues in accordance with the conditions of the contract of employment.

19. Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.

20. Implements useful progress assessment measures that ensure student growth and achievement are continuous and appropriate for age group & subject area.

21. Create an in-person (and virtual when needed) classroom environment conducive to learning that appropriately supports the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Help students to analyze and improve study methods and habits.

22. Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and school.

23. Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.

24. Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules & coordinating.

25. Participates in arrangements for in-service training and professional development. Informs the Subject leader/Level Head, should they require any specific training in order to carry out their duties as a teacher.

26. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Subject Leader. All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established as part of the annual performance planning process or as the result of organizational planning.

27. Plans, prepares, and delivers lessons to a range of classes.

28. Contributes to curriculum development.

29. Contributes to classroom displays.

30. Uses strategies and acts, when necessary, in order to maintain good order and behavior in the classroom; facilitates learning and safeguards student health and safety, both on-site and during authorized off-site activities.

31. Implements all agreed school, sectional and departmental policies.

32. Research new topic areas and maintains up-to-date subject knowledge.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of academic subject(s) assigned.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructions.
  • Knowledge of internet and web-related technology.
  • Ability to instruct students using a variety of technology applications and platforms.
  • Ability to assist students with technology set-up, navigation, and provide contact resources to students/parents if technology issues arise.
  • Ability to develop relationships and maintain consistent contact with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.
  • Ability to use common office machines and computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet, and file maintenance programs.
  • Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
