JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT:
The Subject Leader, occupy a pivotal and highly-valued place in the intellectual and cultural life of the school.
S/he is responsible to the Principal/ VP/ HOS/ HOC/ HTL for:
- The successful teaching of his/her subject and its contribution to the educational aims of the school in ways that will inspire pupils;
- The provision of leadership to departmental colleagues, playing a significant role in their review and professional development;
- The efficient administration of the department’s resources and facilities;
- The effective representation of the department both within and beyond the school.
- In the carrying out (and delegation throughout the department as appropriate) of the following detailed responsibilities and duties arising from the above, work closely with their line-managers) and can expect their full support.
- As senior members of the staff establishment, Level Heads/SL’s are expected to be fully conversant with all school policies and to play their part in promoting good conduct among pupils both within departments and throughout the School.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. To raise standards of pupil attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum area and to monitor and support pupil progress.
2. To be accountable for pupil progress and development within the subject area.
3. To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.
4. To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for pupils studying in the department, in accordance with the aims of the schooland the curricular policies determined by the Governing Body and Administration.
5. To be accountable for leading, managing and developing the subject/curriculum area.
6. To manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the department effectively to support the department development plan.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of academic subject(s) assigned.
- Knowledge of curriculum and instructions.
- Knowledge of internet and web-related technology.
- Ability to instruct students using a variety of technology applications and platforms.
- Ability to assist students with technology set-up, navigation, and provide contact resources to students/parents if technology issues arise.
- Ability to develop relationships and maintain consistent contact with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate records.
- Ability to use common office machines and computer-driven word processing, spreadsheet, and file maintenance programs.
